Facebook F8 Developer Conference Kicks Off Today

Facebook is gearing up for its much awaited F8 Developer Conference due to begin today (10:00 am PST) at the Ford Mason Center in San Francisco. The 2015 conference will be held for two days this year until March 26. 

The conference will launch with a keynote by Mark Zuckerberg and end at 5:30 PM tonight followed by a party. Tomorrow will end at the same time will be followed by the traditional eight-hour “Hackathon” – Facebook’s hacking-marathon, which brings developers and programmers together to develop software.

Here’s a review of some of the key items Facebook intends to discuss at the F8 2015, as mentioned on
their website. Building Tools

From 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM today, the company will discuss the topic “Building for the Next Billion”and talk about how the company has collaborated with developers to target new users who have never been online before. The key speakers during this 45-minute session will be Internet.org Product Partnership Manager Jackie Hang and Platform and Internet.org Partnerships Director Ime Archibong.

Between 2:00 PM and 2:45 PM today, Facebook Growth Marketing Vice President Alex Schultz will be presiding over the session entitled “How Facebook Grows,” which will focus on various strategies businesses can use to benefit from Facebook’s growth.
From 3:00 PM till 4:00 PM today, Facebook Product Managers Seth Rosenberg and Lexy Franklin, along with  Facebook Engineering Director Matt Steiner, will zero in on the future of Facebook Messenger in a session called “Messenger: Reinventing Everyday Communication.”

Growth And Ads

On Thursday, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, the F8 conference will welcome Facebook Creative Labs Product Marketing Manager JessKate Ogungbadero and Facebook Creative Labs Product Engineering Manager Alan Cannistraro to shed light on building and growing Facebook’s standalone apps by focusing on innovation. This discussion is titled “Lessons from Creative Labs.”
Between 1:00 PM and 1:45 PM tomorrow, Facebook Software Engineer Ben Padget and Facebook Product Manager Alyssa Levitz will speak about sharing products offered by Facebook to develop other apps. The session is called “Grow Your App Organically.”

Monetization

The “Grow Your App Organically” discussion on Thursday will be followed by a session focusing on user monetization and is scheduled to end between 1:45 PM and 2:00 PM. Facebook has named this discussion “Best Practices for Monetizing with Ads” and has invited Facebook LiveRail Knowledge Manager Elle Destree and Facebook Audience Network Product Manager Sriram Krishnan to discuss various effective strategies to increase app revenues through ads.

Security

Three discussion sessions will focus on security, all of which are scheduled to be held today. The first one, “Implementing Facebook Login Securely” will begin at 12:00 PM and end by 12:45 PM. Key speakers for this topic include Facebook Platform Integrity Engineering Manager Jonathon Gross and Facebook Platform Integrity Software Engineer Brent Dorman. The main focus of the discussion will be on safely building a customized Facebook login on server and client apps. In this regard, the discussion will also include solutions to counter common vulnerabilities.
