WooHoo - Social Livestreaming and Object Tracking

 

Dear jury,

Traditional TV broadcasting is facing tough competition as we are moving from TV to digital and from digital to mobile. Startups like Periscope en Meerkat have shown the need of people to livestream, or to watch lives streams. This is not the kind of live streaming that we already know from live news and sport matches, etc. We are talking social livestreaming.

The difference is that with social livestreaming viewers get the chance to interact with their streamers, aka idols / brands / etc. This way, companies can get closer to their fans.

 

A logical next step, based on the need of real time and interaction, is to improve customer and/or viewer experience. You can integrate this into many industries, for example in tracking players at soccer matches. With real time interaction, fans involvement increase and you create stronger relationships with them.

 

That is why we have created Woohoo, a tool that provides a new kind of audience experience.

We have chosen to work on the challenge of Monte Rosa:

How can you combine live player tracking with realtime interaction to create a new kind of audience experience?

 

By combining players’  location tracking with real time interaction, the web and the audience become one. In addition to this, you can show relevant statistics and players’  profiles (targeted on customer groups) and even advertise!

 

It works this way with the main focus on social realtime interaction:

  • Players’  and ball-location are tracked (SportVU) with cameras from different angles.

  • With object based tracking (ie players) we connect realtime data in a live stream

  • If the crowd tweets, a selection will be showed on the match screen at the player they’re tweeting about

  • While watching the match, people can tap on the screen and show their emotions with emoticons.
