Background
It’s 07.00 hours and a feeling of dread looms as you realise you have to cross London to get to the Hackfest. You venture out bleary-eyed, in need of caffeine, stress levels rising at the thought of queues, crowds, delays (where were those engineering works again?), or sitting in smoggy traffic. There’s not a taxi to be seen anywhere, and where are all Boris’ bikes?! Surely there’s a better way!
The Challenge
Use your skill and ingenuity to make travelling in London a pleasure, not a nightmare! Armed with IBM’s cloud platform, a plethora of open APIs and the Internet of Things, your challenge is to make travellers’ lives better. Let your imaginations go wild as you explore ways to make journeys easier, quicker, more enjoyable….
You could focus on helping commuters reduce their travel time; plan for poor weather or avoid cancelled public transport; or help tourists find something interesting to do when delays occur; or help cyclists find bikes and stay safe. Whether you create a mobile app, a desktop app, or a web-based system, the World is your Oyster card…ahem.
